Week 4 readers response

After analyzing your main character in a closer manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-chart or in paragraph form, compare and contrast these two characters. Determine which one you identify the most with and why.

In the book The Wave, main character Ben is a man. He is a history teacher at a high school. He is known to be inspiring, influential, reflective, cares about others, strict, interactive, risk taker, inquirer, knowledgeable, balanced, and is a self-centered husband who is narrow minded in focus. His wife is a music teacher.

Comparison: I noticed as I was reading my book that Ben and Calder have little in common. But he things that they do have in common are pretty cool. I believe that if these two were two become friends it would be hard to believe because that would have little to talk about unless all they talked about was history. Both love history. Both oped minded.

In the book The Wright 3 Calder (one of the main character's) is 12 years old and in sixth grade as. Calder has brown hair that sticks straight up. Calder is the kind of person who loves to solve mystery's with his friends. He is very energetic and open with his thinking. Calder seems to be a very good person. He pays attention in class. Doesn't talk back, and he listens to what the teacher has to say. Calder also shows very good behavior. Calder also loves history class.

I think that I relate more to Calder because I'm in middle school along with him at this point in time and I'm a very energetic person too. I've noticed that we do have several things in common such as I love history and he loves history. When I was little I had brown hair just like Calder, in fact my original hair color is brown. Calder reminds me of a younger me when I would sit with my friends and we would make up little mysteries and solve them together it was so fun. The only thing me and Calder do not have in common is the fact that his hair sticks straight up into the air, he doesn't talk back, and he pays attention in class all the time. I mean I do pay attention in class, but not all the time. It's just that sometimes things get boring.

Week 3: April 18 - April 22, 2011

You must use at LEAST 2 quotes from the book.
Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss:
-1. your main character's personality
- 2. how they act/behave
- 3. what they look like
- 4. how old they are
- 5 what sort of education do you think that they have
- 6 who their friends and family are
- 7 what their financial (money) situation is
- 8 and what their job is (if they have one).

Calder (one of the main character's) is 12 years old and in sixth grade as it says on page 7. He has brown hair that sticks straight up. From reading my book, I had started to figure out what Calder had then looked like. In the book on page 17 it says that " Calder was a boy with brown hair that sticks straight up in the air." Calder is the kind of person who loves to solve mystery's with his friends. He seems in the book that he is very energetic and open with his thinking. In the book Calder (on page 10) seems to be a very good person. He pays attention in class. Does not talk back, and he listens to what the teacher has to say. He shows very good behavior to me in the book.

Located on page 7 in my book it says that Calder is 12 years old. He goes to school with his two other friends Petra and Tommy. Calder goes to school at "University School." His mom seems to have a steady job that provides a good amount of money to live on. Calder's Job in the book is school, and his investigation's that he loves to do. Calder would investigate several things. Like in the book he investigated and solved the puzzle of who stole the art painting. He had help from Petra.

The second, main character in my book is Petra. Petra Is a very confident and focused girl as described on page 21. Petra's behavior in the book is as normal as any other teenage girl. She has crushes and then she doesn't like them anymore. She also is very focused when it comes to working on a case. This shows that she has self respect. She has dark, out of control curly hair, and thick glasses. She is petite and is always holding a book (found on page 6).

Petra is the same age as Calder, she is 12 and goes to University School. Petra is in the sixth grade. Petra lives's with her parents and four younger siblings. Her friends are Calder and Tommy as I know of for now. From the looks of it on page 14 her mother and father are both in the middle of wealthy. Meaning that have enough money to live on. Petra's jobs are to do common chore's around the house, go to school, and help with the investigations along with Calder and soon Tommy.

Tommy seems to be a very energetic, full of life young man. He shows this on page 3 in the book. Tommy shows a little bit of jealousy because of the fact that Calder had made a new friend (petra) while he had been gone for a year. Tommy, is the shortest of the three (him, Petra, and Calder). He has short, black hair and dark brown eyes.

Tommy, just like Petra and Calder, is 12, in sixth grade, and goes to University school. Tommy is friends with Calder and Petra. Him mother is Zelda Segovia. Zelda works for the library close to there house. From the looks of it money is fine in this family/book. Well for now at that. Tommy also, has the same jobs as Petra, he does common chore's around the house, goes to school, and instigates crimes/puzzles with his two best friends!!!
                                  Calder                    Tommy              Petra

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel.

I'm reading The Wright 3 by Blue Ballet. I found it hard to wright 2 alternate titles until I looked inside my book and found the description!!!
   Alternate title 1: Ghostly Shadows!
Alternate title 2: Voices drifting from within!

The background of my book would be full out black. Then you would see a dark evil kind of pale grayish face. The face would have terrifying eyes that are white. Almost as if they have no soul at all. It would have a dark smirk kind of grin. A grin that no human would have. The grin of a demon. The noes would be kind of long almost as if it was fading away along with the rest of his face. The creature would look mad, as if someone disrespected him.

By my description I think that I will go with my first alternate title Ghostly Shadows

This would be my cover!!! I have a touch computer so i drew it on here on the painting thing!!!

Week 1 - March 17 - 18, 2011

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what page you first met them.

The book I am reading is The Wright 3 by Elizabeth Balleitt Klein. The publisher of this magnificent book is the Scholastic Press. The copyright date was 2006

The genre of my book is  mystery. I know that this is the genre of my book because a mytery book is known as fiction. I know this because as you read on into the story it gives you little hints that the book is a mystery. By stating that there "once was a girl who believed she could solve this" In the book they had stated this. Throughout the book they would drop little hints just shouting out two you "hey this is a mystery book" I thought it was pretty cool!

If the book was non-fiction it would have a whole back ground info spot (meaning a little summary) on that specific person but this book does not which makes it fiction.

The cover of my book shows two boys and a girl. Behind them there is a creepy looking building that I think is their school. It is full of many colors. From Light browns to dark browns. In the windows you can see that the lights are on and they are bright. The boy on the left up close side of the book is holding some type of like food or object. The moon is laid down slightly beneath the trees. You can barley see it.  I have not met any characters yet due to the fact that they are going over like the mystery the kids are trying to solve.
